Material Specifications

Although these discs are produced by the paper making process, these materials are in fact elaborate composite structures. IMC now has vast range of formulations available, each offering different characteristics, energy levels and co-efficient of friction.

Commonly called ‘Bronze’ due to its appearance, which is caused by its high copper content of various formulations. Bronze friction discs have been in production for nearly 60 years and are available in many formulations. Once the material is sintered to the core plate, the thickness and groove pattern can be easily machined.

Sintered Brass / Bronze materials are suitable for both ‘wet’ and ‘dry’ applications.

Carbon friction materials offer an outstanding thermal capability with good wear resistance and superior noise, vibration and harshness engagement characteristics. There are several types including woven carbon cloth, carbon rich paper and special composites. Friction coefficients differs depending on the material type and structure.

The graphite material was developed to meet the ever-demanding needs of ourustomers. Graphite is only used in wet applications. The material is approximately 30% porous and has an extremely high energy dissipation capacity.

Molybdenum friction materials are commonly used for low speed and high-pressure applications, offering high wear resistance, good oil compatibility and stable coefficient of friction. The coating of molybdenum is flame sprayed onto the steel core plate. A final finishing process prepares the surface guarantee a reliable friction behaviour.

Elastomeric is a advanced rubber friction material, developed for powershift transmission and swing and travel brakes. Due to its elasticity it is extremely resilient and adapts well to the mating sutfaces thereby increasing the energy and power consumption capability.
